What is a rainbow baby?
A rainbow baby is a child born following a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, or infant loss.
“A rainbow baby is the understanding that the beauty of a rainbow does not negate the ravages of the storm. When a rainbow appears, it doesn’t mean the storm never happened or that we are not still dealing with its aftermath. It means something beautiful and full of light has appeared in the midst of the darkness and clouds. Storm clouds may still hover, but the rainbow provides a counterbalance of color, energy, and hope.”
As a newborn photographer, most of what I experience is joyful, heathy babies I get to love on. But statistics don't lie. 1 in 8 women suffer from infertility and 1 in 4 women have experienced a loss. I've had clients experience the whole spectrum of infertility struggles.
Loss is the one part of my job that can be difficult at times. But that loss makes it that much more poignant when their rainbow baby is born following a loss for that child did not come to be without first walking through a storm. We always find a special way to honor baby's big brother or sister in Heaven during the session and I tear up right along with the parents in gratitude for this special child because I know how much they have been through to get their precious rainbow baby.
I’ve had the privilege of capturing so many rainbow babies throughout my career and I wanted to find a way to give back.
I’ve decided to gift one family who has suffered such a loss a newborn mini session each month. The session will include:
Up to a 90 minute studio session with just baby
2 special rainbow setups styled by photographer
5 hand-edited, high resolution digital images with print release
*All sessions will take place at my studio in Easley, SC (about 10 min from Downtown Greenville)
